Short version: ChatSave runs 100% on your own device. It collects nothing, sends nothing, makes no network requests, and nothing it reads or exports ever leaves your browser.

What it does

ChatSave adds an export button to the ChatGPT conversation page. When you click it and choose a format, the extension reads the conversation currently shown on the page and saves it as a Markdown, PDF, JSON or plain-text file — or copies it to your clipboard. Everything is generated locally on your device. That is all it does.

Data we collect

None. ChatSave has no servers, no account, no sign-in, no sync, and no backend. We do not collect, transmit, store, sell, or share any of your data — not your conversations, not the pages you visit, and no personal or usage data. We cannot see any of it.

Does it read my ChatGPT conversations?

Only the conversation you are looking at, and only at the moment you click Export. ChatSave reads the already-rendered conversation from the ChatGPT page (chatgpt.com / chat.openai.com) purely to turn it into the file you asked for. This is your own conversation, your own data. It is processed entirely on your device, is never sent anywhere, and is not retained by the extension after the export is produced.

Where my settings are stored

Your export preferences (such as the default format) are kept locally on your device using the browser's own extension storage, so they are there next time you use ChatSave. They never leave your browser and are removed when you uninstall the extension.

Does anything leave my browser?

No. Exports are generated on your device, and ChatSave makes no network requests of any kind — no servers, no analytics, no CDNs, no API calls. It works fully offline. It only acts when you click Export.

Why it needs its permissions

ChatSave uses a content script that runs only on ChatGPT's own pages (chatgpt.com / chat.openai.com) so it can add the export button and read the conversation there when you export. storage saves your export preferences locally on your device. Neither involves any network access or data collection.

Removing your data

Uninstalling the extension removes everything it has stored. ChatSave keeps no data anywhere else, because there is nowhere else — it has no servers.

None. No analytics, no ads, no trackers, no external SDKs, no remote code.
